Medical nutrition
Good nutrition means getting the right amount of calories, and the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. A well-balanced diet may enhance your care recipient's strength and energy, control weight, improve tolerance of chemotherapy or other medical treatments and potentially decrease the need for some medications.
There are times, however, when eating a healthy diet becomes a challenge. When additional calories, protein, fiber and/or other essential nutrients are needed, nutritional supplements may be the solution.
Here are some REASONS snack or complete meal replacements or supplements may be needed:
Reduced appetite, resulting in inadequate food and/or fluid intake
Extra calories, protein, fiber and/or other nutrients required to help:
| • |
Improve athletic performance |
| • |
Build muscle |
| • |
Speed recovery from illness or surgery |
| • |
Minimize side effects of medical treatments or therapies |
| • |
Maintain healthy digestive system via dietary fiber |
| • |
Gain weight or prevent weight loss |
| • |

| • |
